  1. I am in my late 50's with a lot of gray hair. I would like to gradually lighten my hair. But my hairstylist says my hair "pulls red", and no matter what color she puts on it, unless it's a fairly dark color, it turns red. Does this make sense? - Anonymous from Knoxville, TN
Yes, it does because natural haircolor has red undertones, but that doesn't mean you can't get where you want to be. I'd recommend Seana in our salon    » more
Yes, it does because natural haircolor has red undertones, but that doesn't mean you can't get where you want to be. I'd recommend Seana in our salon who is very good at covering gray hair and would be more than happy to get you to your target shade. She just recently had a client with that same issue and the results were amazing!   « less
  2. I started loosing my hair about 8 years ago. About 5 years ago it dramatically slowed. My pattern of baldness is the problem. It didn't reced from the front (widow's peaks) and it didn't create a spot on the back. Instead it's thin all over the top - kinda like selection cutting in forestry instead of clear cutting. In the past I've tried cutting it really short all over (an eighth of an inch), but that tends to make me look like I just joined the military. Plus since my hair is black it actually looks like I have more hair when it's that short. So, at what point should I just shave it? - Boog from Knoxville, TN

Thinning hair is indeed a challenge. Knowing the right move is sometimes a matter of choice. Fortunately, it's not receding as you say, so there's still something to work with. Discuss your concerns with your stylist and work with him/her to achieve a cut that accentuates what you do have instead of trying to camouflage it. The right cut can create the illusion of thicker hair. Another solution we offer are daily supplements from Kerastase that work perfectly for adding fullness to thinning hair. 3. Any suggestions for really thick, wavy to curly hair. I also have a round face and have to be real careful not to make my face look any wider then it already is. My hair length right now is between short and medium but I would like longer hair, would this be a good fit? Thanks so much for your help - Ellen from Maryville, TN

Maintaining the length is definitely the way to go. The trick with curly hair is to remove bulk and create layering that is specific for your hair. We use a technique called "brick cutting" which creates space between curls and removes bulk at the same time. The result is a more streamline look that doesn't add to the roundness of your face but elongates instead.    « less

There are a number of things that can impact the outcome of your haircolor. The same box color may turn out one way for you and completely different for someone else. Not using a professional haircolor applied by a professional colorist makes it difficult to predict results of any shade. We, therefore, cannot make a recommendation for you. However, if you'd like to come by the salon we can offer you a free consultation with no appointment necessary. We look forward to seeing you soon!   « less
  5. A salon told me I could mix a "small amount" of black hair dye with a medium gray dye (5) and get a dark gray. do you all think this is true? my goal is to dye my hair dark gray (like rob zombie) i have about a 5 brown at the moment, and i'm guessing i would mix the dye with 20 developer and gray:black dye ratio would be 5:1? thank you so much! jeff - jeff damron from brownsburg, indiana

That's a common question here in "Humidity Central" where we live. For best results try a light leave-in conditioner that you put in before you blow dry your hair. It will help moisturize and seal off those dry strands that tend to get loose and fly away througout the day. Our favorite is the Oleo-Relax Serum by Kerastase. It's highly concentrated and treats the hair as well as calming those "frizzies." Best of luck!   « less

  9. As someone with naturally curly hair, I've found it difficult to find a hair style that will compliment me, I can look like "Little orphan Annie" or "Carrot Top" with no problems. How can I tame my hair yet not lose the curls? - Jeanine from Knoxville, Tn

Here area a few things to try. First, let your hair grow past the shoulders a bit. Longer hair will pull it down so it doesn't round out so much. Second, have your stylist texturize your cut, so as to take out the interior weight and make it less bulky. Finally finish with an anti-frizz, dehumidifying product that will define your curls. We recommend the Oleo Curl Creme by Kerastase available exclusively at Salon Visage. Curly hair can be a challenge but it can also look amazing with the proper steps. Hopefully this will help get you there.    « less

We would suggest a demi-permanent color to provide grey blending. It adds color without the commitment because the color fades away over time. This way you can decide whether or not you want to get back into coloring you hair without being left with permanent color. If you are ready, as you'll remember, there is regular maintenance involved. Please feel free to stop by anytime for a free consultation.    « less
