  1. After many, many years at the same salon, I think I am going to change. I like the stylist; I like the other people and the ambiance. Unfortunately they have raised their prices gradually to the point that I just paid $166 for cut, color, highlights and treatment. This is now beyond my budget so I will change but I do wonder if this price structure is now typical of most salons. If it is, I need to let my hair go natural! Please advise. - Anonymous from Knoxville TN

Well I can't speak for the pricing structure at other salons. I can tell you we offer a wide range of prices based on the experience, education and skill level of the stylist. The more advanced stylists are naturally a little more, but there are a number of great stylists who are just starting their career and offer a quality service for a great price. Another option would be to discuss your concerns with your stylist and see if there are other services they can offer that still meet your needs but at a lower price. Ultimately, it's your decision as to whether the service you receive meets or exceeds the price you pay. Your hair is an important accessory. Unlike handbags, shoes or jewelry, it's the one thing you have to wear every day. Feel free to stop by the salon for a free consultation at any time.    « less

No, not neccessarily! Suitability is key. Shorter styles are often easier to maintain, which means they fit our busier lifestyles. However, that doesn't mean you have to wear it that way. We always consider lifestyle, faceshape and willingness to maintain when choosing the right look. A longer look could be perfect for you, especially if you're instructed how to style it to fit your lifestyle. Give us a call. We'd be happy to make some suggestions.    « less

I would try a multi-faceted approach. First, start with a deep conditioning in-salon treatment such as Kerastase Vita Ciment. It's an intense reconstructive treatment for weakened hair. You'll notice results almost instantly. Follow that with daily use of the Kerastase Bain De Force Shampoo and Substance Constructive leave-in conditioner. It's a fortifying treatment for hair weakened by color or perms. Both are available here at Salon Visage. Then after a few weeks if you're still seeing some damage, you can go in and trim that up without having to cut it all off.    « less

Yes. When the hair becomes more grey, most of the time the texture will change. The cuticle is open to deposit color on the hair, therefore you will lose moisture and protein -- things the hair needs. Be sure to keep up with moisturizing treatments, which will also make the color last longer and look richer!   « less

Once dry, use a paste or mud (Shaping Paste by Shu Uemura or Mud by BioEssence). Make sure to rub the product thoroughly in the palms of your hands before applying; start with the ends of the hair and work it in all over. Finish with Volumizer hairspray by BioEssence for a strong, flexible hold.    « less
  7. I should have asked this question on my last visit. How long should i wait before getting my hair dyed again? I went to the salon and had the black stripped off. After I got it dyed, I noticed it was not the color I asked for but didn't complain because I figured it was hard enough getting the black off. Now, I don't just want to do the roots, I want to color my entire hair to get the desired color. It is more a reddish than brown tint. They say my hair did well after the stripping, but will it be okay to dye it all over again? My last appt was around 7/29th. Sorry for the long explanation :\ - Saraik from knoxville, tn

If your concern is for the integrity and condition of the hair, four weeks should be plenty. Also if you're goal is to add color and not to do any more highlights or "stripping" you won't be damaging the hair anyway. Adding pigment to the hair doesn't damage it; only pulling it out does. Now that's to say nothing of the current condition of your hair. If you went through a complete color correction, you should consider a restructuring treatment to add health and moisture back such as one of our deep conditioning treatments from Kerastase. Ask for it on your next appointment and good luck!   « less

  9. I have highlighted, wavy hair past my shoulders, that I like to blow out or straighten, but due to time constraints, usually just scrunch. What are the best products for straightening? I love the straight look, but don't have an hour to spend doing so. Also, once straightened, at times, it tends to curl back up. I thought perhaps with the right product applied, along with the right flat iron, brush or drying technique, achieving the look I want could be made easier...??? - Anonymous from Knoxville TN

Achieving a straight, sleek style for someone who has naturally wavy hair is a time commitment but it shouldn't necessarily take an hour. Using a large round brush and blow dryer (with directional nozzle) dry the hair in sections. We recommend Kerastase Oleo Relax Serum which is a leave in conditioner for controlling frizz and relaxing those waves. We also recommend using a Chi Flat Iron to straighten in one inch sections working around the scalp. If using an iron, though, be sure to use a heat protectant product as well. Feel free to stop by anytime for a free consulation. We'd be delighted to make a personal recommendation for you in person.    « less
  10. Dear SV: I have a 10 yr old daughter who has thick, curly, and way frizzy "poofy" hair. No one seems to be able to cut it so that she can deal with it. It has to be thinned about 4-5 times, and honestly that still doesn't seem to do it. We do not blow dry it. I know that it has to be about product, but which product is the question, not to mention a hair style that actually works. Any ideas? (I would submit a photo, but there doesn't seem to be a place on here to do so.) - Frizzed Out from Knoxville, TN

You're absolutely right about the products. We have three from Kerastase that would help tremendously. First start with Oleo Curl shampoo to set and condition the hair. Follow with Oleo Curl Creme which can be applied with or without a blowdryer with diffuser attachment (which would also help). This will help define the curls, make them softer and prevent frizz. If you don't want to blow dry, simply apply the creme in one inch sections and twist them using your fingers then let airdry. This and the proper cut will remove the bulk and bring the hair back under control.    « less
