Currently the only way to remove moles is a technique that does cause scarring. The degree of scarring will vary from person to person. Therefore, I would strongly consider that if you want to remove these to consider the option of using a plastic surgeon to help to minimize the scars as much as possible.   « less
  2. Towards the beginning of the year what I call cysts have been popping up around my face. They first appeared on the sides of my forehead and have since moved down to my jawline. There are many of them and they hurt (tender to the touch) and itch sometimes. They are hard, red, and under the skin but don't have a "head" and don't burst. They usually stay for a month or so and then disappear leaving a dark crater in my face. I am currently seeing a dermatologist in Knoxville and have been on two prescription antibiotics two separate time. The latter was Bactrin for 3 months. This gave me terrible heartburn and did nothing for my face. I'm also using the topical Benzaclin cream. But it's getting expensive to keep going back to my dermatologist and keep paying for new prescriptions. I'm wondering if I need to get a second opinion or if these things take time? Is there anything I can do to get rid of the cysts while I wait for the medicine to kick in? What would be your recommendation in this case for what to do if I don't see results soon? I'm tired of my face hurting all the time and looking bad. - Kyrie from Knoxville, TN

With what you describe the choice of Bactrim seemed very reasonable. For the other medicine, I would have chosen either Doxycycline or Minocycline or even Tetracycline. If that was the case and they did work, I would consider obtaining a culture, if possible, of one of these to see if you have an unusual type of infection. The next medication option is Accutane; however, there is one other prescription topical product that has shown to be very effective for cystic lesions which is called Aczone.    « less

Cysts certainly can be drained when become large and painful. This is often an effective form of quicker relief; however, sometimes if you will catch them before they reach this stage, injection of medicine will help to settle them down and prevent that need. Finally, if you are on an effective prophylactic regiment, the frequency at which these would develop should be exceptionally rare.   « less

The feet often need to be exposed to air during the summer months. Sweating and constant moisture tend to adversely affect them. Therefore, wearing sandals or some variant of those are often quite helpful for young children's feet. With regards to natural products, there are several available over-the-counter products which generally are very helpful for feet. The first contains a natural compound called urea. Asking your pharmacist to help locate one of these products on the shelves would be a reasonable step. Another natural product is lactic acid containing products. These are natural acids which are very helpful in removing excessive skin.    « less

Hair can fall out for many different causes. Some of the more common causes are medication reactions, alopecia universalis, a condition called telogen effluvium which is a stress response from things such as physical stress, illness, surgery, childbirth or mental stress and other internal issues other than thyroid and anemia can cause hair loss. I would suggest you see somebody who can fully address your condition to determine what your cause is and help get you on a treatment regiment to improve your condition.    « less

Hidradenitis is a very difficult condition for which there are no easy cures. There are several different treatment options for the condition. Common antibiotic modalities include Tetracycline and Minocycline. For smaller localized areas injection of corticosteroids is used. There are reports of use of hormones in women for control of this. Surgery is also an option for certain disease. More tertiary treatment modalities include Accutane and more recently some immunosuppressive agents for this condition. The reason there are so many different treatment options is that there is no one effective treatment for all patients for this disease.    « less
