Questions 41-50 of 201:
- My son (18) has had several wart removal treatments. 4 X acid paste/liquid. 3 X freezing. The last time the dermatologist did the freezing treatment, we thought most of them had finally be removed. No, now they are coming back. Is there a more aggressive treatment that will remove these in ONE treatment. The money I have paid out for co-pays on these visits could have just about paid for surgical removal. These are on his hands and fingers and very embarrassing to him.
Thanks.

For people that have resistant warts, I often will recommend taking some over-the-counter oral Vitamin A which sometimes is very helpful with whatever treatment is utilized. Surgical removal is not a cure and statistically is not any more effective than these other treatments from a cure perspective. There is only one treatment that has a much higher cure rate and that is an injected medicine called Gleomycin which is extremely toxic. « less
- I have suffered from Psoriasis for at least 35 years, with it getting progressively worse while I was in my 20s and 30s. At present, it probably covers at least 50-60 percent of my body, especially my arms and upper body. I even have a patch on the bottom of one of my feet :-(
I know I will need extensive--and expensive--treatment, probably for months, to have any hope for a 'remission' of any kind. I thought using a home light-box might be a viable alternative, assuming I can afford the unit. Is using home light treatments (in conjunction, I'm sure, with either oral meds or some pretty heavy duty creams) advisable for a problem as wide-spread and recalcitrant as mine???
It's bad and it's gonna take a long course of treatment to 'deliver me' from this mess, and I simply can't afford once or twice weekly trips to a dermatologist, for months on end.
What course of treatment would you recommend for someone with such a widespread and severe problem?
Thanks! :-)

- What is the most cost effective treatment for stubborn psoriasis? I have tried almost every ointment to no avail. PUVA worked best for me, but the Dr. I currently use didn't have this available at his office closest to me and I had to travel quite some distance for treatments, which took too much time from my job. A home system is quite expensive, too. With so many treatments required, my portion after insurance for in office treatment also grew to be very expensive. I'm looking for something that controls psoriasis well without taking all my time or money.

I do not think the treatment you are looking for exists. Methotrexate represents an older simplified treatment which is often very effective and cheap in today's environment for psoriasis; however, it does have multiple side effects which can usually be researched on the internet.
