- On February 14th I sent a message to you which did not elicit a reply. I will try again hopefully with better results. My question was: I have always enjoyed a good bottle of Lambrusco with my pasta meals. Why is it so difficult to find a good imported Lambrusco today. I thank you in advance for your reply.

If you will look at my expert page, you will see that I did reply to you on the day that I received your email. Basically, the major import wines for Lambrusco over the past 30 years was either Cella or Riunite. They are both generic, soft, almost sweet-like versions. Unfortunately, there just aren't many importers that import Lambrusco. The majority of the ones that I deal with do not have one. But, I will continue to check. « less

It is thought to contribute to health aspects when taken in moderation. It can also be found in other grape products. If you tried a red Burgundy from France, then you might look for other wines made with the Pinot Noir grape. There are several good value Pinot Noirs from California and Oregon. Also, you might try some wines that are a "blend", like one of our favorites - Marietta Old Vine Red. It is a "field blend" of different grapes that is smooth. Another red blend that comes to mind is a wine from Folie a Deux, called Menage a Trois. Let me know how those do for you. « less

Holding it 7 years means that there is a chance that the "fizz" may be gone. Give it a try this weekend and see what happens. « less

It is a blend of several different grape varieties, including Zinfandel. It is smooth and dry but has a lot of fruit flavors. Perfect for summer grilling season. And, it retails around $12. If you would like to serve a red, try a fruit-forward Syrah or Shiraz. A good value Shiraz is the 2005 Milton Park Shiraz ($9.99). If this is the first course of the meal, I would stick with a Rose. Let me know how it works out. « less
- Thad, I've been a fan of Ashes selection for years and am a member of the club there. I'm looking for something special for my mom on mothers day and hoped to find some eroica and trimbach so she could taste her favorite wine in a way that I'm sure she would enjoy. Unfortunately, as you know, TN does not accept direct shipment so I cant have the winery ship them directly to me. If you would, can you tell me which distributors are providing them to TN so that I might find a store that is carrying them?

- Thad, I currently reside in California, Sonoma County "wine Country" moving to Knoxville in the very near future. Thought I might miss easy access to California local wines, Glad to see you have that area of concern covered. Noted your winery tour recommendations for one of your patrons visiting the Napa wine country. I would like to recommend a visit to Benziger in Glen Ellen. The Benziger's offer a tram tour through the vineyards, very educational, helps to appreciate the amount of work from vine to bottle. No, I do not work for them, just visited a lot of wineries and this is the best for appreciating how wine is made. Look forward to visiting your establishment.

Make sure that the bottles that you are buying have been stored well by the retailer. Make sure that you store the Korbel in a cool, dark place. If kept at room temperature for that long, there maybe some variations from bottle to bottle. But, for the most part, you should be fine. - Thad, I have a bottle of Cuvee' Dom Perignon Vintage 1993 champaign that was given to me as a gift in Dec 2002. I don't drink much champaign, but I did know a little about Dom Perignon. I remembered reading somewhere that this was Marilyn Monroe's favorite & I always wanted to try it. This bottle came in a nice box that I stored with the bottle laying on it's side in a cool, dark place. However, the temperature in that room probably averages about 60 - 70 degrees. I was keeping this champaign for my son's wedding toast if & when he ever got married--I almost gave up! Anyway, he is now almost 30 years old & getting married for the first time this Oct. I want to give this to them to use for their toast, but wanted to make sure that the champaign is still good. What do you think? P.S.--When they finish that toast, guess who is grabbing the bottle for a taste?

But, at room temperature, there is always the slight chance that the bottle may have excelerated it's maturity. If it is for the couple to have on their wedding night, then go ahead and give it a try. But, if it is meant to be poured at the wedding reception, first open the bottle and sample it. If it is slightly off, be prepared with a second bottle. If the first bottle is perfect, then the second bottle can be for you! « less
