Champagne

Sorry but I have been out of the country and just got back. To answer your question, the most important information is how was the bottle stored over the past years. If it has been in a hot basement or near a stove, forget it. But otherwise the best thing to do is open it and see. If you don't hear a "pop" sound as the cork comes out, then it is not good. Otherwise check for color and bubbles. Enjoy!

Celebration

congrats on being a Dad! I have been one now for over 20 years and it has been a blast. For my two sons, I bought a case of Taylor-Fladgate Port 1992 and 1995 Chateau St. Exupery Margaux. As for your two options, vintage Champagne or a top notch Rioja producer will both do well if the cellar you are putting them in are temperature and humidity controlled.

Dom 1985

Go to the internet and look for major retail stores in New York or Washington D.C. You may have a hard time selling without the buyer having an opportunity to examine the bottle first. Good luck!

1985 Dom Perignon Champagne

Dom Perignon is a great champagne and 1985 was a very good vintage. The problem is that after so many years champagne hits a optimal peak of drinkability. For Dom, I beleive that was maybe five or so years ago. If you say it has been stored in a cool, dark place and with the bottle on its side, it could still be worth $100 - $150 a bottle, maybe more. But there is a chance that the champagne has passed its peak.
