Thad, I'm interested in doing a wine/cheese party. I am not sure where to start. Should I stick with all red or all white or a few of both. The other dilema is which cheese to go with those wines and other food so we do not have a bunch of "over indulged" folks on our hands. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

09-17-2007 - Shelia, great question. There are several things to consider when hosting a party. First of all, I would not serve too many wines - keep it simple - maybe three whites and three reds. The next step is up to you - either pick the the cheeses first or the wines - it really doesn't matter. Let's go with the cheeses. A couple of simple ones would be Gouda (try with a medium-dry Riesling), Goat Cheese (Sauv. Blanc or Sancerre), Brie (Chardonnay), Muenster (Cal. Zinfandel), Blue (Cabernet or Bordeaux) and then either Stilton (Ruby Port) or something like a cheescake (Muscat). Six cheeses, six wines, great party. To make sure that your guest aren't "over indulged", you can provide a Dump Bucket which allows the guests to pour out any left-over wine in their glass. Then you can use a pitcher of water to rinse the glasses between wine courses. That's about it. You can stop by Ashe's anytime and ask for Paul or myself and we can help you pick out the wines.
