Cuvee Dom Perignon Champagne Vintage

We have a Cuvee Dom Perignon Champagne Vintage, in it's original box which is sealed. Our question: There is no date on the seal nor on the original box.......how can we tell the date/vintage?

Dom Perignon

Typically the vintage is listed on the outside of the box. On the back label there are some tiny numbers usually in the bottom right hand corner. E-mail me those numbers to thad@asheswines.com and I'll see if I can contact a rep. Do you have any idea when the bottle was purchased?

Is it legal to resell a bottle of liqour that would be considered rare? How to I state that I am selling it? Do I say that the bottle itself is for sale as a collectible?

Reselling

I would talk to your CPA to figure out any tax issues that might arise. If it is between you and a friend, probably not much of an issue. If you are trying to sell by advertising it, I would also check with TN. Alcoholic Beverage Commission. There is a local office here in Knoxville.

Paul Masson Cabernet Sauvignon vintage 1981

Would like to know if I should open this bottle or is it worth something?

Paul Masson

Normally a Cabernet will peak within the first 5 - 15 years depending on the producer and normally would last for 20-25 years. My bet is that the Paul Masson is over the hill. But, if you are game it might be worth checking it out.

Depending on how the bottle has been stored in the past, it should be fine as long as it has a vintage date from 2007 or sooner.

1985 Dom

The answer lies in how the champagne has been stored over time. If stored properly in a 58 degree cellar, the price could be worth up to $300 or more. If not, then much less. At room temperature, it might be worth $100. The key is proper storage.

Sorry but I have been out of the country and just got back. To answer your question, the most important information is how was the bottle stored over the past years. If it has been in a hot basement or near a stove, forget it. But otherwise the best thing to do is open it and see. If you don't hear a "pop" sound as the cork comes out, then it is not good. Otherwise check for color and bubbles. Enjoy!
